After the last 2011 international break, major European championships are back until the end of the year. Every season, this period is crucial. Some teams started their competitions in July and begin to be tired. Other teams didn’t start well and got a good opportunity to climb in the standings with a positive streak.
Premier League :
As usual, we start with the Premier League. Saturday, the main attraction will be the clash between leader Manchester City and surprising third Newcastle. Even if there are only two places that separate these two teams, bookmakers expect an unbalanced game and put City as a huge favorite. I’m not far from thinking the same thing. Newcastle have impressive results for now, nobody can contradict that. The Magpies are 7-4-0 and the only undefeated team with… Man City. These are facts. However, they didn’t meet a big machine yet. They played two games against potential big four teams and didn’t win once. These two games were at home (0-0 against Arsenal and 2-2 against Tottenham). Newcastle has had an easy start compared with what is to come. They will meet three giants on the three next rounds. So the first step will be City, then it will be another difficult trip against Manchester United and the reception of Chelsea. Tasty program! I think they will not take a lot of points in these three matches. Concerning team news, Newcastle will be another time without Tiote. I think this injury is a big blow for the Magpies midfield. Against average team it was ok, but against Yaya Touré and his teammates, it could be too tough.
Earlier in the afternoon, Arsenal will try to confirm their good shape against Norwich. Everton want to climb in the standings after a bad start. The Toffees have to win at Goodison Park against Wolverhampton. Stoke City are on a terrific run. They are 1-0-4 on the last 5 without met top teams. They host QPR who just met Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City on the row. Sunderland - Fulham and WBA - Bolton will be other low rankings games, while Wigan - Blackburn will oppose the 20th and the 19th in a game already crucial for the fight against the relegation. The last game of the day will be Swansea – Manchester United. The Swans are very solid at home. They are 3-2-0 and they conceded only one goal. But they met only bad ranked team at home. United come in Wales with only one idea, take three points.
On Sunday, the big clash is London between Chelsea and Liverpool. For finish this round, Tottenham host Aston Villa on Monday.
Bundesliga:
One of the big clashes of the Bundelisga season will take place on Saturday. Bayern Munchen, impressive for three months host the defending champion Dortmund. I wouldn’t say that the dynamics were reversed because Bayern continue to win, but it seems that the games begin to be more difficult while Dortmund start to play better. In the case of Bayern victory, Heynckes team will have 8 points more than their opponent. For this meeting, they will be without Schweinsteiger and Tymoshchuk because of injury. So Bayern can’t align their two regular center midfielders. Robben comes back in the group. He should start on the bench. Dortmund infirmary finally trends to empty. Only Subotic can’t be on the pitch among the regular starters.
Probable lineups:
Bayern: Neuer - Boateng, van Buyten, Badstuber, Lahm - Luiz Gustavo, Alaba - T. Müller, Kroos, Ribery - Gomez
Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Felipe Santana, Hummels, Schmelzer - S. Bender, Kehl - M. Götze, Kagawa, Großkreutz - Lewandowski
Tonight, Leverkusen challenge Kaiserslautern. Bayer is a real deception after 12 rounds. Only 8th, they seem to lose energy in Champions League. On Saturday, Schalke host Nurnberg, a team they appreciate to match. Freiburg need points and will be against Hertha who begin correctly their season. Other games that bookmakers expect balanced are Köln - Mainz and Wolfsburg - Hannover and Moenchengladbach - Werder.
On Sunday, VfB Stuttgart is presented like a big favorite against Augsburg, last of the championship. Hamburger will try to ameliorate their bad ranking in beating Hoffenheim at home. |
